Making... Smores pie?
What’s a Smores pie you say? Well, it’s down right delicious of course! The second I saw it in my Vegetarian Times magazine, I knew I had to make it. Memorial Day seemed like the perfect occasion! Vegetarian times taught me that marshmallow fluff is vegetarian! No gelatin like normal marshmallows (this is good for my vegetarian friends). My husband consented to allow me to use his...

Training log update: peak mileage weekend May 28 &...
Well, thank goodness it’s over. With two weeks until the Escape to the Lake Bike MS Ride in Pennsylvania I’ve completed my peak mileage. There were some moments when I wasn’t sure I’d make it. The first moment was when reviewing the forecast, I saw this: The temperature is one thing, but I was willing to wake up early to try to beat the heat as much as possible. The real...

Training log update: May 21 & 22, 2011
Well, you’ve probably read by now that I’m training for the Escape to the Lake Bike MS Ride in Pennsylvania which takes place on June 11th & 12th. I’m super excited to make the trip home and visit with my family while taking part in this great fundraising event. I’ve been training for this event since March. This weekend, I rode Saturday and Sunday. This past week I was in San Francisco...

Making garden herb infused olive oil spread
Sometimes we like to make little personal pizzas on top of flatbread for dinner. Instead of pizza sauce, we tend to use olive oil or hummus.  Our garden is somewhat sad this year due to the crazy drought we’ve been having but at least the herbs are doing well.  I picked some thyme, oregano, garlic chives and rosemary from the garden to start with: I then stripped the thyme, oregano, and...

Making a summer cocktail
I guess it’s not officially summer yet, but in Texas it feels like it’s been summer for months. You may remember the vodka infusions I made recently. I finally got to try the watermelon rosemary infusion and I must say, it was delicious. I used the Rosebud recipe from Kitchen Konfidence.  It was fun to muddle the watermelon with the crushed ice: I used rosemary sprigs from the...

Training log update: May 2 - 8, 2011
You may or may not know, but May is Bike Month in Austin! In honor of bike month, the city and various workplaces and organizations are promoting cycling, particularly commuting to work.  I hear that my workplace, National Instruments is engaged in a friendly competition with AMD to see which campus has more employees commuting to work by bike this month. We’re keeping track of our trips and...

Making a trip to Alaska
Instead of training for the Escape to the Lake Bike MS event I went to Alaska this past weekend to see my younger sister graduate from the University of Alaska Anchorage. It was my first trip there in the approximately 5 years she has lived there. It also was not tourist season because it was still decently cold so many things in the smaller towns were not open. Although I did not get to do any...
