OK, so I’m home sick again today and am comforting myself with my first crochet project ever: an afghan I made six years ago. I am nothing if not ambitious so I tend to dive right in when learning a new craft. Afghans can take a long time which did not deter this beginner crocheter. Especially if you pick a pattern (Warm up America by Lion Brand Yarn - login required) that will let you learn many different stitches by making individual rectangles for the afghan. I thought I was making an excellent decision and making the rectangles went well. I did tend to make them different sizes and would constantly compare the one I was making to previous rectangles and then adjust as needed. 

Once the 49! individual rectangles were complete, I realized I’d reached the really boring part of the project: weaving in the yarn ends for 49 rectangles AND then sewing all those rectangles together to actually make an afghan! I think I gave up on that part of a while before finally coming back around to finishing the project.

I learned my lesson after that and never select patterns where I will have to sew many individual pieces together to make the finished product.
